you always do when you write, you photograph, you compose, you dance, you paint... I don't know any art form where the artist doesn't give his soul. If it is made with soul, it must feel like it. interesting enough, in contrast, some tribes don't allow photographs as they believe a photograph captures the soul of the portrayed.
Hi Luisa, the idea that a photograph captures the soul of the portrayed really makes an interesting parallel with Gauguin's quote. I guess art has that power, to change material into something better, to enrich the material with spirit.
Sometimes I feel extraordinary well when painting, I feel I bathe my soul in something higher and more beautiful. But when I have to give the painting, or put it away, I feel extremely sad. Sometimes, I wonder if artists can be truly happy. Do they/we long for something else?
I like to think that every art piece has a special mission of its own. Artists give them a task and send them to the world. But there are sculptures that i find special, sometimes you just know that you have created an unique piece, and that you cannot copy that emotion, that energy again. Those pieces are really hard to let go.
