Yes, i think art in general must have that power, to open our eyes for the things we usually don't notice in our everyday life. I guess we develop a habit, a routine of seeing only the surface of things. Art makes our eyes focus, it sharpens the image of truth.
I have discovered this even more so now that I'm taking photographs for my blog. The photographs of my own work helps me to find the flaws (sometimes long after a piece has sold...which can be frustrating).
I do it too, sometimes with photos, and sometimes with a mirror. It is amazing how seeing your own work in the mirror make its flaws become so obvious, and i agree it is so frustrating:) But i guess it is like that, our eyes are like us, they develop a habit of not seeing the obvious so easily.
