I guess we are all obsessed w something... photographers with light, movement, faces... but not only artists. and it can be quite positive to be obsessed by something when that means improving and feeling passionate for something. maybe.
I guess curiosity and obsession are connected, obsession could be curiosity concentrated on one thing. There is a powerful connection between the artist and the sensation he is after. Like in that quote by Leonardo da Vinci "The lover is drawn by the thing loved, as the sense is by that which it perceives..."
