If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

seduction and challenge together. improving and enjoying together. difficult combinations, that's for sure. it's a really intelligent way to put the relation between improving and enjoying the world we live in. certainly a tension but it's impossible to enjoy in full without wanting to make something for the better, i guess... not sure if i'm making any sense here...
I agree, that really is the best kind of enjoyment, the enjoyment of making the world a better place. And if you can put these two things together, you can achieve great things in your life.
