To be an artist

To be an artist means never to avert one's eyes.

that's such a sharp quote, great. it's also about showing / communicating / sharing (looking for the 'right' word here...) to a larger public who might be distracted, in a way, I guess...

Yes, i guess making art is just a small piece of being an artist.
I think you have to stand for your art, to testify for it and to defend it with all you have. And if you really believe in what you are doing, you will be up to it - never to avert anyone's eyes.

That's the difference between art for the sake of art and art for the sake of life.

Akira Kurosawa was a genius. One of the Gods of the exquisite art of cinema.

Looking at things with an artist's eye is different. I was out for the day with a friend I hadn't seen in years and soon realized we were experiencing things quite differently. I realized that I had trained myself, without being conscious of it, to really look at things. Later we swapped photos of our day out and we both noticed that I zoomed into the little details whereas she hadn't noticed the details and took the wider perspective. A different way of seeing.

Yes, i guess artists sometimes see those little things that other people leave behind.
