The river We cannot cross

Promised Land
by Samuel Menashe

At the edge
Of a world
Beyond my eyes
Beautiful
I know Exile
Is always
Green with hope —
The river
We cannot cross
Flows forever

I wonder... why are the things we cannot cross the promised and most desired ones?

It gives us hope so we continue to see things as being greener on the otherside.

Hi Luisa and Robyn.
I think we all have at least one ideal dream, ideal in an impossible way. But i think that light of that dream can show us the right way and guide us. And maybe we will find in reality what we love the most about that dream.
I guess that makes our quest a bit Don Quixotesque, so here's an appropriate quote:
“One man scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable stars; and the world will be better for this.” Miguel de Cervantes

Hi Thinker
beautiful poem, I agree with what you all said. To me, Hope is a place we can return to whithout really knowing the way; it's our private land and also everybody else's. It's everywhere and nowhere at the same time, and therefore so easy to lose we sometimes forget about it :)

Yes, a lovely idea for a poem, a place as a symbol of our hopes and desires fulfilled, a final destination of a dream.
Glad you liked it.
