A painting and a poem

Landscape With The Fall Of Icarus
by William Carlos Williams

According to Brueghel
when Icarus fell
it was spring

a farmer was ploughing
his field
the whole pageantry

of the year was
awake tingling
near

the edge of the sea
concerned
with itself

sweating in the sun
that melted
the wings' wax

unsignificantly
off the coast
there was

a splash quite unnoticed
this was
Icarus drowning

I see the splash! Very interesting. I love the light in this painting.

Yes, it's a lovely painting. I like the idea, to put the drowning Icarus on the edge of the painting, almost invisible to the world "concerned with itself". It really is like that, individual tragedies happen every day and they are often unnoticed by the rest of the world.
