In this early XXI century the poem sounds true to the word; most houses we built today are so ugly! Blocks of concrete. No magic, no poetry, no charming decay: concrete goes black whereas wood is softened :)
This remindes me of these wise words once spoken long ago: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." Mathew 7:24-26
I believe some people choose to live as rebels, and some as believers. And Edna, through her poetry, she in a way had believed in rebellion. I personally believe that Christianity is a religion of true freedom, and i am more a believer than a rebel. But I also find beauty is free of right and wrong, good and evil. It is like that and we cannot do nothing about it. This could be a great topic for discussion.. Welcome to the blog!

I'm with Edna on this one! I prefer a shining palace built upon the sand. Stability is overrated!
I guess that from a perspective of a common man, being a poet or an artist in general really can seem like building on the sand.

Charming decay, I like that!
