Pierre Pinoncelli became famous with his successful attacks on two of the eight copies of Duchamp's Fountain with a hammer as a statement that the work by now had lost its provocative value. The latest attack happened in 1993 when he also urinated into it before using the hammer.
Pinoncelli said that he actually talked with Duchamp about this before his attacks. " I told him of my plan to destroy the urinal. He laughed and encouraged me."
